JEWELRY INSURANCE

There are a few options for obtaining jewelry insurance:
-
As a rider (or extension) with your existing renter’s or homeowner’s policy.
- A typical renter’s or homeowners policy may have some coverage for jewelry items, but it typically has lower limits that would not cover more valuable items. These items need to have specific individual coverage – that is the purpose of a rider.
-
Through a specialized jewelry insurance company.
- Jewelers Mutual Insurance: Exceptional coverage that goes beyond a typical homeowner’s policy, even paying for some repairs.
- Chubb Personal Insurance: Their policies have deductible and payout full appraised value rather than replacement.
In general, when considering either form of jewelry insurance, you'll want to be sure that you understand:
- What the insurance company pays for in the event of a loss.
- Your personal responsibility to update the policy. Many never revisit their coverage after setting up the policy, but are required to have periodic appraisals in order to make full use of their coverage.
The bottom line is to make sure your jewelry is properly insured before there is a claim. Understanding exactly what you are paying for is very important when dealing with your insurance company. Many questions in coverage unfortunately come after there is a claim, when it’s often too late.

How we can help:
Insurance Appraisal
An appraisal is used to determine the value of an item in a given market and is usually needed to obtain insurance for loss or damage. We have certified experts in our showroom to provide you with an appraisal. The cost for appraisals is $150 for the first piece with $75 fee for each additional piece. Unfortunately, we can not offer while-you-wait appraisals. An appointment is not necessary, but you can schedule one here so we can set aside time just for you.
Our lead appraiser, in addition to being a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), is also a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA). NAJA is the largest international professional appraisal association exclusively devoted to the valuation and appraisals of gems and jewelry, watches, and the specialized needs of jewelry appraisers. Our staff has the integrity, credentials, and experience to provide you with all your jewelry appraisal needs.
Insurance Replacement
Losing, damaging, or having a precious keepsake stolen can be a very stressful and anxious time. Although we can never replace the sentiment and meaning behind your jewelry, we can help you through the process of matching and duplicating exactly what you had. JAB is uniquely qualified to reproduce any type of jewelry and replace any damaged or lost stones. Our team of professional designers, goldsmiths, and GIA Graduate Gemologists covers every aspect of the process to replace a cherished treasure. Everything from selecting a replacement diamond to making the exact (or better) mounting is done under one roof. We often deal directly with the insurance companies and act as your advocate to ensure you are totally satisfied with any jewelry replacement. It’s very important to know your insurance policy and what rights you have.
To begin the process of replacing or repairing a piece of jewelry, please schedule an obligation-free appointment with us.
